Calling all Badgers: Support the team in Toronto at lacrosse championships

The Brock Badgers men's lacrosse team is headed to the University of Toronto this weekend for a return to the Baggataway Cup national championship tournament.

The University is encouraging alumni in the Toronto area and the wider Brock community to come out and support the team in their quest for the championship.

The Badgers' first game will be a quarter-final against Nipissing on Friday Nov. 9 at 4 p.m. at Varsity Stadium. The winner will face Trent in a semi-final on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Badgers haven't lost a game since September, and are on an eight-game winning streak. Last weekend, Brock defeated the Guelph Gryphons 13-6 in the opening round of the playoffs.

"It was a great team effort," said head coach Tim Luey. "The offence, defence, faceoff guys and goaltending all did their jobs. Everyone contributed.

"I really like how far we've come as a complete team. We've had our highs and lows, but I feel like we're hitting our stride at the right time."

Leading up to championship weekend, a trio of Badgers were named to the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association's all-star team: defenceman Adam Kirchmayer (Welland), long-stick midfielder Latrell Harris (St. Catharines) and attackman Kurtis Woodland (Fergus).

The tournament's other semi-final will see Western will play the winner of a quarter-final between McGill and University of Toronto.

The Baggataway Cup championship game is set for Sunday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. at Varsity Stadium. Single game tickets and weekend passes are available through the University of Toronto Varsity Blues website.
