Brock wrestlers capture five medals at Commonwealth Games

GOLD COAST - The Brock wrestling club had its top international performance at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia as all five wrestlers brought home hardware.

Diana Weicker won gold at 53kg posting a perfect 4-0 record with wins over Carissa HOLLAND (AUS), Deepika DILHANI (SRI), Bose SAMUEL (NGR) and Babita KUMARI (IND) in the gold medal match.

Jessica MacDonald (50kg) and Michelle Fazzari (62kg) both took home silver. MacDonald went 2-1 with wins over Rupinder KAUR (AUS) and Miesinnei GENESIS (NGR). Her lone loss came against No. 2 ranked Vinesh VINESH (IND) in the finals. Fazzari posted a 3-1 record with wins over Tayla FORD (NZL), Sakshi MALIK (IND) and Berthe Emillene ETANE NGOLLE (CMR). Fazzari had to default the finals by injury to Aminat ADENIYI (NGR).

Emily Schaefer (57kg) and Jevon Balfour (74kg) both captured bronze. Schaefer went 3-1 at 57kg with victories over Ana MOCEYAWA (NZL), Pooja DHANDA (IND) and Joseph ESSOMBE TIAKO (CMR) in the bronze medal match. Balfour lost his opening match to the eventual gold medalist Kumar SUSHIL (IND). He then rebounded to defeat Muhammad Asad BUTT (PAK) and Connor EVANS (AUS) in the bronze medal match.
