The Brock Badgers suffered their first loss of the season as the Laurier Golden Hawks swooped in to spoil the Badgers' homecoming game on Saturday.
Laurier led all game en route to a 24-5 win over Brock in front of a large crowd at Brock Alumni Field.
"Tough first loss of the season, but Laurier is a strong team," said head coach Phil Sullivan. "They came in 0-2, but we knew they weren't what their record was. We didn't execute the way we wanted to."
Brock wing Liam Boeyenga punched in a try with 10 minutes remaining to break the Golden Hawks' shutout.
Cameron Sandison opened the scoring with a try and Matt Fish tallied another to give Laurier a 10-0 lead at halftime.
In the second, Owen Lavado added a try to extend Laurier's lead and Adam McNee pulled off the convert before Brock found the end zone.
Tyler Farrow scored a late try and McNee finished the day with two converts.
"It's an intense season and these are the games you need to win," added Sullivan. "It's a new team from last year, so they need to take some time to think about the things we need to do to learn from today to benefit us later in the season."
Up next, the Badgers (2-1) travel to Kingston, Ont to face off against the RMC Paladins at Navy Bay on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 3 p.m.
