Brock men's lacrosse player signs NLL pro contract

A member of the Brock men's lacrosse team is going pro.

Boedy Shields, a third-year Sport Management student from Didsbury, Alberta, signed a two-year contract with the Rochester Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) on Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Last month, Shields' teammates Christopher Weier and Sam Leclair were selected in the 2020 NLL Draft.

This is an opportunity Shields has been looking forward to throughout his career.

"This has been something I've worked so hard for and I've sacrificed a lot to get to this point, so I am very excited," he said. "This has always been a goal of mine. I've dedicated my whole life to lacrosse and being able to reach this level, so it's very exciting to sign with such a great organization like Rochester."

Shields, who stands six-foot, 180-pounds, recorded five points in 20 games as a defensive middy over the past two seasons with Brock.

The 20-year-old defender also played two years of Junior A lacrosse with the Calgary Mountaineers in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League (RMLL). He scored 11 goals and 26 points in 29 regular season games, including 23 points in 27 playoff contests.

Shields was named the RMLL's Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the First All-Star team in 2019.
