Badgers split weekend matches, improve to 3-1

The Brock men's lacrosse team improved to 3-1 after trouncing the Laurier Golden Hawks by a score of 17-2 in Waterloo on Saturday, Oct. 9.

The Badgers are tied with the Western Mustangs with six points each to lead the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association's West Division.

Sam Leclair scored three goals in the first quarter as Brock roared out of the gate with an 8-0 lead after the first quarter.

LeClair leads the division in scoring with 13 goals and 15 points in four games.

Josh Rex finished with four goals and an assist while Mitch Zullian whipped in four goals. Connor Aquanno tallied three goals while Jack Fitzgerald, Matthew Hertner and Benjamin Smellie each chipped in a marker.

Tyrus Rehanek posted three assists. Goalie Ethan Low earned the win in net while allowing only two goals.

On Friday, Oct. 8, Brock lost 15-8 to Western in London.

The Badgers led 3-2 after the first quarter on three goals from Leclair. Western stormed back in the second and carried a slight 6-5 lead into halftime. The Mustangs pulled away with six goals in the third.

Leclair finished with four goals. Zullian added a pair, and Nathan Braniff and Aidan Buis each potted a goal.

Next, the Badgers (3-1) look to secure two points, and the division lead when they host the Mustangs (3-0) in their final regular-season home game on Thursday, Oct. 14, at Alumni Field beginning at 8 p.m.
