Badgers clinch division, set for CUFLA playoffs

The Brock men's lacrosse team captured the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) West Division with an 18-6 win over the Guelph Gryphons on the road on Sunday, Oct. 24.

The Badgers (5-1) will open the playoffs against the McMaster Marauders (2-4) at Alumni Field on Monday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m.

The winner will advance to the Baggataway Cup Championship weekend at Nipissing University in North Bay from Nov. 5-7.

Against Guelph, goaltender Simon Bellamy made nine saves on 15 shots as Brock finished the regular season with a 5-1 record.

"The season has been a grind. We had a difficult strength of schedule this season," Bellamy said. "We have a young team this year, and we still came out and earned first place. I'm proud of the guys that we earned this first-place rank."

The Badgers scored a season-high 18 goals as they had 10 individual scorers contribute to the win.

Sam Leclair, Alex Pace and Mitch Zulian each scored three goals. Aidan Buis and Mitch Gustavson each tallied two goals.

Tyrus Rehanek, Nathan Braniff, Connor Aquanno, Peter Hrynuik and Jack Fitzgerald each posted a goal.

"We never let up as we played a full 80 minutes," added Bellamy. "Our offence played amazing today. They were relentless, and our defence was lockdown."
