LONDON - The Brock Badgers track and field team opened their 2022-23 campaign in London this past weekend competing at the Bob Vigars Open.
Several Badgers secured their ticket to the OUA Championships in February, highlighted by a first place finish for
Colton Spencer in the men's 60m hurdles. The second-year sprinter won the finals in a time of 8.53, placing ahead of three runners from Western to claim the top step on the day.
Other Brock athletes who delivered strong enough results to earn a spot at the provincial championships include; Michael Ivanov, who placed third in the men's pole vault with a jump of 4.25m; Grace Kugler, who sprinted to a third place result in the women's 60m hurdles in a time of 9.23;
Tyrell Smikle, whose 7.22 run in the men's l60m dash final earned him fourth; Madelyn Huston, who finished fourth in the women's 1000m with a time of 3:00.81; Joseph Dick, reaching third in the men's 3000m in a time of 8:53.14; Andrew Armstrong, whose seventh place throw of 11.79m in the men's shot put qualified him.
The Badgers also saw top three finishes from Kugler who placed second in the women's 200m, a second place result for the men's 4x200m relay, and third overall for Sofia Vella in the women's 300m.
Brock are right back in action quickly following the winter break as they head to Toronto to compete in the Sharon Anderson Meet on Saturday, Jan. 7.
