ST CATHARINES - In a rematch of the 2021 Baggataway Championship, the Brock Badgers men's lacrosse team were unable to duplicate the success from a year ago in the regular season home opener, falling 11-6 to the visiting Guelph Gryphons on Saturday evening.
The Gryphons returned to Alumni Field with intention, jumping out to a quick 7-2 lead heading into the halftime break.
However, the Badgers offence found their rhythm in the third quarter, closing the gap to just two goals courtesy markers from
Mitchell Zulian,
Noah Simonelli,
Andrew Kidd, and
Aidan Buis. Zulian led the Badgers scoring on the day with three total points from one goal and two assists.
The come-from-behind effort was cut short though as Guelph returned to the form they saw early, scoring three goals in the final five minutes to secure the road victory.
Next up for Brock is a trip just down the road to Hamilton to challenge the McMaster Marauders on Friday, Sept. 23. Action is set to begin at 8 p.m.
