The Badgers demonstrated resilience on Sunday (Oct. 22) night, coming back from a 1-0 fourth-quarter deficit to take down the visiting McMaster Marauders 3-1.
"We had an off night on offence and the defence really picked the team up," said head coach Vince Longboat. "We're happy with the win and we'll move on. It's going to be a tough week of practice and then we'll see what happens with the playoff game."
Though both teams were determined and receiving chances, neither could find the back of the net in the first quarter.
McMaster's Grayden Power broke the deadlock with two minutes left in the second quarter, giving the Marauders the lead into halftime.
The third quarter came and went without a single team getting on the board.
Longboat credits a speech from one of his players that helped jumpstart the Badgers in the fourth.
"We had a quote from one of the guys who said we haven't had to go anywhere for the first round of the playoffs ever. That was all we needed. The guys really took that to heart."
Using that motivation and determined to earn the No. 3 seed in the West Division, Brock came out firing in the fourth. At the 3:04 mark, first-year attack Avery Steinbach Parker scored a spectacular goal to tie up the contest.
Colton Armitage who had multiple goals last night, put in his first of the game with 8:37 remaining in the contest. For good measure, the Badgers added a third off the stick of Jaden Patterson.
The Brock defence continued to hold up and goaltender Connor O'Toole was up to the task as the Badgers earned their sixth win of the year.
Up next, the Badgers continue their season in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) playoffs. Brock (7-3) will host the Laurier Golden Hawks (6-4) in the first round with the date and time to be determined. Check back on gobadgers.ca to get your latest updates regarding this playoff game.
