The Brock Badgers avenged their only loss of the year by defeating the visiting Guelph Gryphons 12-10 on Friday (Oct. 6) night at Alumni Field.
It was an action-packed first quarter as a total of seven goals were scored. Sophomore Brodie Thoms earned a hat trick in the first 15 minutes, putting in three straight goals in a span of less than three minutes. At the end of the first, the Badgers held a 5-2 lead.
The second quarter saw both teams fire two goals into the net, making the halftime score 7-4 in favour of the Badgers.
Brock outscored Guelph 3-2 in the third quarter to take a 10-6 lead.
The Gryphons were not done fighting, putting up a 4-2 fourth quarter. The Brock defence bent but not did not break on this night, holding off the Guelph comeback attempt and winning the contest 12-10.
The Badgers were led by Thoms who finished with three goals, while Jaden Patterson led the team with three assists.
Andrew Kidd scored twice, while goals were added by Colton Armitage, Aidan Buis, Nolan Fehr, Trent Hunter, Blair Pachereva, Noah Simonelli and Mitchell Zulian. Zulian also added one helper along with teammates Harrison Brooks and Callum Jeffrey.
Up next, the Badgers (4-1) finish their weekend schedule against the Western Mustangs (5-0) on Saturday, October 7. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
