The Brock men's and women's track and field team kicked off their 2023-24 season at the Bob Vigars Season Opener in London on Saturday, Dec. 2.
Keshawn Igbinosun placed first in the men's 300-metre dash in a time of 35 seconds and 54 milliseconds. The Teacher Education major's time bested his performance at the 2023 Ontario University Athletics Championships by three milliseconds. He then also placed first in the 200m dash in a time of 22.83, while Olobo Okpanachi took third (24.15).
Igbinosun along with Ayden Tessier, Tyrell Smikle and Mitch McGarr captured first in the 4x200m relay, with a time of 1:34.45, capping off a successful meet for the Scarborough product.
"Keshawn ran very well this weekend in both his individual events and his leg of the relay," said head coach Spencer House. "His time has already improved in the 300m, which is very exciting to see this early in the season."
Other Badgers had strong performances in London, including Michael Ivanov who placed second after a 2.00m jump on his second attempt. The local Niagara Falls native earned first in the two-person men's pole vault with a successful jump of 4.15m.
Brielle Greenslade placed second in the women's shot put with a throw of 10.98m, while Megan Jaques took home third (10.61m).
Tyrell Smikle tied for second in the men's 60m dash alongside Western's Matt Indome with a time of 7.12. Five milliseconds later, Brock's Colton Spencer crossed the finish line. Spencer also placed second in the 60m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 8.40.
Up next, the Badgers will compete in the new year at the Sharon Anderson Memorial Meet in Toronto on Saturday, Jan. 6.
