Brock track and field captures two OUA Championship medals in program best performance

WINDSOR - Traveling to Windsor for the OUA Track and Field Championships, the Brock Badgers delivered a new program best performance this weekend bringing home two provincial medals.

Leading the charge for the Badgers was veteran shot putter Emily Good who claimed first overall in the women's shot put event registering a first place toss of 13.23m. The gold medal performance marks the best by a Brock track and field athlete at the OUA championship event, while also improving on the Brock program record mark for women's shot put which Good set earlier in the Badgers 2022-23 campaign.

Joining Good on the podium, first-year multi-event athlete Michael Ivanov captured the bronze medal in the men's pole vault with a leap of 4.71m, once again marking a new program best result for the Brock men at the provincial showcase and improving on Ivanov's previous Brock record jump. Along with his outing in the pole vault, the rookie sensation also picked up a fifth place result in the men's high jump registering a mark of 1.96m to crack the top five. Ivanov would be rewarded for his strong all-around performance in his first ever OUA Championship, being recognized as the OUA Men's Rookie of the Year.

Additionally, Brock saw three more fifth place finishes among athletes competing at the championship, including Madelyn Huston in the women's 1000m (2:48.90), Colton Spencer in the men's 60m hurdles (8.13), and Grace Kugler in the women's 60m hurdles (8.64). Both Huston and Spencer bettered the Brock program record times they already held in those events.

Overall, the Brock women finished sixth in the team standings, while the men ranked 10th. Four athletes will see their seasons continue beyond the provincial event as Good, Ivanov, Spencer, and Huston qualified to compete at the U SPORTS National Championships taking place from March 9-11 in Saskatoon.

"It was a very exciting event this weekend with our athletes producing some of the best ever championship meet results in program history," noted Brock track and field head coach Jac Harris. "Prior to this weekend we had never had anyone finish higher than fifth, and this weekend we were able to capture two medals. As well, we never had more than one athlete qualify for the national championships in a single cycle, but this year we have four, so it is just amazing to see the program continuing to grow and improve."

Next competition: March 9-11 • U SPORTS Championships - Saskatoon, SK
