TORONTO - Traveling to Toronto to compete with some of the best from across the province, the Brock Badgers men's and women's track and field team continued their season at the York Open this past weekend.
In a season filled with all-time performances, the Badgers continued to see a number of new program records set beginning with third-year runner
Madelyn Huston who smashed the previous Brock record time in the women's 600m with a new record mark of 1:34.94, placing third overall in the event. Other podium performances for the Brock women included fifth-year shot putter
Emily Good who earned the silver with a throw of 12.42m, and first-year middle distance runner
Anna Ciepielewski who ran to a bronze medal with a time of 3:18.79 in the women's 1000m. Meanwhile, standout first-year sprinter
Grace Kugler set two Brock program times in the 60m hurdles and 60m sprint, bettering her own times from earlier this season with new marks of 8.61 and 7.81. Fourth-year middle distance runner
Ailbhe Morgan also set a new Brock record in the women's 1500m posting a time of 4:49.96.
For the men, first-year jumper
Michael Ivanov, along with the men's 4x200m relay team of
Colton Spencer,
Keshawn Igbinosun,
Tyrell Smikle, and
Nick Mancini, all reached the podium for the Badgers. Ivanov continued his spectacular season with a third place result in the men's pole vault posting a leap of 4.50m. Meanwhile, the Badgers relay team ran to a silver medal time of 1:32.14, finishing just two tenths of a second ahead of the third place finishers from York at 1:32.34. From the relay team, Spencer would also tie his previous Brock record in the 60m hurdles, placing fourth overall with a time of 8.30.
In total Brock saw 26 personal best performances at the York Open event, with two more invitationals still to compete in before the OUA Championships in Windsor at the end of February. Next on the docket for the Badgers will be the Windsor Team Challenge taking place from Feb. 10-11.
