WATERLOO - With a number of Brock Badgers men's and women's wrestler competing at the 2023 Canadian Wrestling Championships in Waterloo this weekend, in total Brock saw seven varsity wrestlers reach the podium at the national event.
Headlining the results for Brock at the Canadian showcase, first-year wrestlers
Vanessa Keefe and
Bronwyn MacGregor both claimed gold medals. MacGregor earned her national gold by winning the junior women's 62kg event, knocking off opponents from Calgary, GTA Impact, and Lakehead en route to the top step on the podium. Meanwhile, a U SPORTS bronze medalist and OUA gold medalist in the 72kg category, Keefe earned first place in the senior women's 72kg with victories over two opponents from Edmonton and another from Western. Keefe also added a silver medal in the junior women's 68kg event defeating competitors from Akhara and Edmonton, while suffering her only defeat of the championship to her opponent from Team Discipline.
Continuing the strong results for the Brock Badgers women's team, Isabella Jakobi placed second in the junior 51kg,
Daina Morris-Armstrong finished second in the senior 55kg, U SPORTS female wrestler of the year
Mia Friesen was third in the senior 57kg category, and the duo of
Shauna Kuebeck and
Brianna Fraser finished second and third in the senior 76kg competition.
Additional results for Brock saw
Rachel Hall fourth in the women's junior 72kg,
Jessica Tillmanns sixth in the senior 62kg,
Samantha Adams fourth in the senior 65kg, and
Gabriel Sementilli fifth in the senior men's 57kg.
