For the second straight weekend, the Brock Badgers men's and women's track and field teams were in action as they travelled to Windsor for the Windsor Team Challenge on Friday, Feb. 9 and Saturday, Feb. 10.
This meet was the final preparation for the Badgers before the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships that are being held on Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24. in Windsor.
The men finished seventh out of 16 teams in the team challenge while the women placed ninth out of 13 teams.
Second-year jumper
Michael Ivanov led the way for the Badgers finishing tied for second in the pole vault, successfully clearing 4.65 metres on his second attempt.
Marco Di Felice also had a strong meet placing fourth in the men's mile (four minutes, 18 seconds and 13 milliseconds) and fourth in the 3000-metre race (eight minutes, 35 seconds, 12 milliseconds)
Third-year sprinter
Keshawn Igbinosun saw success over multiple events too, placing fourth in the men's 300m (35.03) and sixth in the 600m (1:21.60).
For the women, it was graduate student
Madelyn Huston leading the way with a second-place finish in the women's 600m (1:34.67) on Friday. The Maple Ridge, BC product followed this up with another second-place finish in the 1000m (2:56.07) on Saturday.
First-year combined events athlete
Sajini Ganeshamurthi represented the Badgers in the women's pentathlon, finishing first in the shot put (11.05m) and fourth in the long jump (4.80m).
Brielle Greenslade and
Megan Jaques both achieved Top 10 finishes in the shot put, throwing 11.06m and 10.93m, respectively, to place eighth and ninth.
Next up, the Badgers will travel back to Windsor for the OUA Championships Friday, Feb. 23 and Saturday, Feb. 24.
