Brodie Thoms scoring heroics was not enough as the Guelph Gryphons took a close 11-10 win.
Thoms scored four goals in the season opener for the Brock men's lacrosse team on Saturday, Sept. 7 in Guelph.
Andrew Kidd and Jaden Patterson added two goals each with Neal Adamson rounding out the scoring for the Badgers with one goal.
After going down 9-5 at halftime, the Badgers showed resilience. The visitors battled back by holding the Gryphons scoreless in the third quarter while scoring two of their own.
Adamson and Thoms put Brock within one with just over a minute remaining in the contest, but the Badgers could not solve Guelph netminder Jacob Hanye for an 11th time.
Both Connor O'Toole and Connor Scott appeared in net for the Badgers with O'Toole making six saves and Scott notching seven.
Avery Steinbach-Parker had two assists while Thoms, Brayden Brown and Trent Hunter had one each.
Guelph outshot Brock 24-19 in the win.
Up next, the Badgers remain on the road for their next contest as they travel to North Bay to take on the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.
