Brock headed to the nation's capital for its first invitational of the year.Â
The Brock Badgers men's and women's fencing teams took part in the Carleton Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 11 and Sunday, Jan. 12 at the Norm Fenn Gym.Â
In men's sabre, the Badgers finished fifth place out of 23 teams in the event. Representing Brock in the category were Andre Montrichard, Ben Wignall and Darius Williams. In pool play, Brock bested McMaster, Ottawa and Western C to earn a first-round bye to the Round of 16. In the Round of 16, Brock defeated Western B to advance to the Round of 8, where they fell to the Delta Squad.Â
Representing the Badgers in men's foil were Mackenzie Andrei, Robert Cruickshank and Parker Triano, who placed 13th in the event. In pool play, Brock defeated Western C but fell to RMC. In the Round of 32, the Badgers took down a club called Slam before bowing out against Queen's in the Round of 16.Â
After falling to two club teams in pool play, the men's epee team was represented by David Shodipo, Karl Stang, and Thomas Tam defeated a club team in the Round of 32 but were eliminated in the Round of 16 by a club called EMR. Â
In women's epee, Brock featured the team of Tiffany Muhindi, Lara Sulzer, and Bryn Thomas, who ranked 11th in their event. Â
The Badgers team in women's foil included Wylan Clitheroe, Alex Francoz and Addison Mahoney, with the group placing 15th and making it as far as the Round of 16.Â
Next, the Brock Badgers fencing teams will head to Kingston for its OUA Championship on Saturday, Feb. 8 and Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Queen's Gaels Athletic and Recreation Centre. Â
