Michael Ivanov continues to shine on the field.
The Brock Badgers men's track and field team travelled to Windsor and the Dennis Fairall Fieldhouse, going up against other Ontario University Athletics (OUA) schools and clubs at the two-day Can-Am Classic on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12.
In the pole vault event, Ivanov claimed gold with a successful attempt of 4.85 metres. The third-year jumper qualified for the U SPORTS Championships by clearing the auto standard by two centimetres.
Ivanov impressed as he bested Brennan Seguin, a former U SPORTS pole vault champion with the Guelph Gryphons, and Nojah Parker, a former outdoor national pole vault champion, to win the event.
On the track, Colton Spencer delivered another strong performance as he followed up his second-place finish at last week's Sharon Anderson Meet with another silver medal result. Spencer finished with a time of eight seconds and 20 milliseconds in the finals and had the best time from the preliminary heats, finishing in eight seconds and 15 milliseconds.
Christian Ligtenberg placed fourth in the 1 mile run (4:21.77), while Keshawn Igbinosun, last week's Athlete of the Week, ran to a seventh-place finish in the 300m race with a time of 35.50.
The best relay finish for the Badgers was in the 4x200m event as the team of Jason Friesen, Khamal Reid, Jake Peters and Ayden Tessier placed ninth (1:35.65)
Up next, the Badgers are back in action right away as they head to the Don Wright Team Challenge in London, ON on Saturday, Jan. 18.
