Luca Danesi (Binbrook, Ont.) of the men's soccer team and
Lauren Macsai (Port Colborne, Ont.) of the women's cross country team have been named the Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Sept. 21.
Danesi, a fourth-year Teacher Education major, is earning his second
Athlete of the Week honours of the season. Over the course of the weekend, Danesi totalled two goals and an assist. In the 1-0 win on Friday, Sept. 19 over the Western Mustangs, Danesi played 89 minutes, tallying the only goal in the contest in the 64th minute. His impact carried over into Sunday's game against the Windsor Lancers where he registered a goal and assist in a 3-0 win while playing all 90 minutes. After beating two defenders, Danesi found
Sebastian Agudo in the 45th minute for the first goal of the match. Danesi then sealed the game with a penalty kick in the 77th minute for Brock's third goal.
After a very strong summer track season, Macsai, a fifth-year Community Health major, finished first overall in the women's division during Sunday's PGXC Race Series in Williamsville, N.Y. Her time of 18:23.8 in the five-kilometre race, matched a course record while also helping lead the women's team to a first-place finish. Macsai maintained a quick and consistent pace throughout the competition, clocking in an average of 3:41/km.
