Gavin Taylor (Burlington, Ont.) and
Evan Marks (Cambridge, Ont.) of the baseball team and
Miriam Troger (Tyrol, Aut.) of the women's tennis team have been named the Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 11.
Starting on the mound in the gold medal game, Marks pitched a clinic against Laurier, tossing a complete game shutout to help the Badgers secure their fifth OUA Championship title. The fifth-year Business Administration major dominated on the bump, striking out eight Golden Hawks without surrendering a single walk across nine innings of work. Demonstrating composure on the biggest stage, the veteran kept batters off-balance all game long, finishing the game on just 91 pitches to cap off the Badgers undefeated run to provincial gold.
Troger, a first-year Kinesiology major, helped lead the Badgers to a sixth-place finish competing in her first OUA Championships. The Austrian native went undefeated in her three individual matchups against opponents from the Toronto Varsity Blues, Waterloo Warriors, and McMaster Maraduers. Across the weekend, Troger won 28 total sets, while only dropping 12, including a two-set victory against the 2023 and 2025 OUA Player of the Year, Toronto's Anastasiya Dyadchenko. The freshman standout made an immediate impact when it mattered most, topping off her impressive debut season with the Badgers.
Taylor, a third-year Teacher Education major, played a vital role on both sides of the ball in the Badgers undefeated weekend and provincial title. Over three games, the sure-handed shortstop went 4-7 at the plate, with two home runs, five runs batted in, four runs scored, and two walks, providing valuable production at the bottom of Brock's lineup. Taylor made all the difference in the gold medal game against the Laurier Golden Hawks, mashing a two-run homerun to drive in the only two runs of the contest. Defensively, Taylor also snagged a line drive to turn an inning-ending double play as Laurier threatened down the stretch. The veteran's clutch contributions proved to be the difference-maker in helping the Badgers secure their first OUA Championship title since 2014.
