Robbie Pemberton (Richmond Hill, Ont.) of the men's golf team and
Emma Poulton (Milton, Ont.) of the softball team have been named the Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Oct. 18.
Â
Earning his second Athlete of the Week honour of the season, Pemberton dazzled at the OUA Championships, helping lead the Badgers to a second-place finish. The fifth-year Physical Education major tied for second in the individual men's rankings, posting a score of 74 across the first pound of play on Saturday, Oct. 17, followed by a 71 in the second round on Sunday, Oct. 18. Across the weekend, Pemberton finished one stroke over par with a total score of 145, earning him a first team OUA All-Star nod that cemented his spot amongst the OUA's top golfers.
Â
Poulton, a fourth-year Kinesiology major, played a similarly key role in the Badgers runner-up finish at the OUS Championships over the weekend. In the Badgers first match of the weekend, the pitcher slugged a walk off grand slam to claim a 14-10 victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Her clutch game-winning homer helped set the tone for the remainder of the tournament, as the Badgers carried the momentum from their memorable start forward to become the only team to remain undefeated heading into the gold medal game. The veteran's leadership both on and off the field was crucial in helping Brock secure a provincial medal to end off the season.
