U SPORTS Top 10: Women's volleyball climbs to No. 5 ranking

The Brock Badgers women's volleyball team rises to No. 5 in the U SPORTS Top 10, matching their highest ranking of the year.

Follwing a weekend sweep of the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the Badgers sit a top the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) standings with a 15-3 record.

The first game, taking place on Friday, Feb. 6 at Bob Davis Gymnasium featured a 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-22) Brock victory. Emily Foest posted a match-high 12 points from 11 kills and a service ace, while Emma Baruchelli trailed closely with 10 points of her own from six kills, two service aces and two blocks. Falling behind 11-9 in the third set, Baruchelli sparked a 16-11 Badgers' run with four kills and a service ace to claim the final set and the match. Brock was the leader in the blocks category, recording eight of their own to six from Lakehead.

Saturday's Senior Game contest featured another sweep for the Badgers, this time taking a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-14) decision over the Thunderwolves. In this match, Daryan Chadwick was the lead contributor, notching 15.5 points off of 13 kills, 1.5 blocks and a service ace. Charlotte Ross earned 12.5 points coming from seven kills and 5.5 blocks, while Jenna Peters dished out a game-high 33 assists as the team's lead setter. Knotted up at 21 apiece in the third set, Brock scored the final four points with timely hitting and blocking to seal the game and match. The serving statistic went in Brock's favour as the Badgers accumulated six service aces to four from the Thunderwolves. 

Up next, with major playoff seeding implications on the line, the Badgers will play host to the Windsor Lancers for their final regular season series of the year. The first game will take place on Friday, Feb. 13 at 6 p.m., with the second slated for Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m., both of which will be held at Bob Davis Gymnasium.
