ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University women's soccer team (3-8-4 OUA) were eliminated from playoff contention after falling to the Laurier Golden Hawks (8-3-3 OUA) by the score of 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Prior to the game, head coach
John Durish recognized the Badgers three graduating players
Lindsay McDonald (Burlington, Ont.),
Sara Vitaterna (Niagara Falls, Ont.) and
Kelly Miller (Brantford, Ont.).
The Badgers got the scoring started just before the end of the first half when
Alana Wong (Mississauga, Ont.) connected on a shot that snuck past Laurier goalkeeper Maggie Carmichael, giving Brock a 1-0 lead heading into halftime. The Badgers got the goal playing with a player down, as
Megan Salisbury (Hamilton, Ont.) had to be taken off the field with an injury.
Laurier struck for their first of three quick goals as Katie Bishop picked up the tying marker in the 70th minute.
Just two minutes later, Emily Brown would come through for the Golden Hawks to take a 2-1 lead after 72 minutes.
The quick goals didn't stop there as Brown extended her OUA scoring lead to 16 by collecting her second of the game in the 76th minute. Brown was able to get her head on a perfect cross from Suzanne Boroumand to beat the Brock keeper
Jenna Vasiliaskas (Burlington, Ont.).
Vasiliaskas made seven saves in the loss; while Laurier's Carmichael made two saves to pick up her eighth win of the season.
Brock will finish off the 2013 season on the road in Hamilton this Saturday, October 19 when they take on the McMaster Marauders (4-5-5 OUA) at 1pm.
