ST CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University women's soccer team (2-5-4 OUA) lost a hard fought 2-1 decision to the UOIT Ridgebacks (4-5-2 OUA) at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Badgers struck first in the 29th minute when St. Catharines native
Kara Ross scored off of a Brock free kick just outside the penalty area. The ball was deflected on its way through to the goal beating UOIT's keeper Melissa MacKinnon.
Brock took a 1-0 lead into halftime but the Ridgebacks came out determined to put the pressure back on the Badgers.
UOIT got the tying goal in the 61st minute as Kayla De Souza took advantage of a lucky break to make the score 1-1.
15 minutes later, Brock was called for an unlucky handball inside the penalty area resulting in a penalty shot for the Ridgebacks.
UOIT brought up midfielder Shannon Lucas to take the penalty and she made no mistake sneaking her shot just past the outstretched
Jenna Vasiliaskas (Burlington, Ont.) for the game winner.
Brock was unable to take advantage of being up a player after a red card was given to Nicole Zajac for a hard foul committed in the 71st minute.
The Badgers will take to the road on Sunday in a matchup against the Waterloo Warriors (1-9-1 OUA) at 1pm.
