Brock men's rugby downs Laurier 20-8

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock University men's rugby team defeated the Laurier Golden Hawks by the score of 20-8 Saturday afternoon on the road to even their OUA regular season record to 1-1.

Laurier opened the scoring nine minutes into the opening half as Jesse Kokorudz added his first try of the seson to make it 5-0.

Brock answered three minutes later with a penalty goal from the foot of senior Connor Fitzsimmons (Unionville, Ont.) making it a two point game 5-3.
At the 24 minute mark, Fitzsimmons would give the Badgers  6-5 lead as he connected on his second penalty goal of the contest. Brock led 6-5 after 40 minutes.

Just over ten minutes into the second half, Brock's Steven Bayukhin would record his first try of the season to put the Badgers ahead 11-5. Fitzsimmons would add the convert giving the Badgers an eight-point lead 13-5.

The Golden Hawks would cut the lead to five, 13-8, after Kyle Spicer buried a penalty goal though the uprights in the 58th minute.

In the final two minutes of regulation, the Badgers 2012 MVP, Matthew Mufandaedza (Yellowknife) recorded his first try of the campaign giving Brock an 18-8 lead. Fitzsimmons added the convert for the 12-point victory. He led all scorers with 10 points including two penalty goals and two converts.

The Badgers next action is Saturday, September 21st as they host the Guelph Gryphons at 1pm as part of thr 2013 Brock Homecoming.
