
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team (12-1 overall) defeated the McMaster Marauders by the score of 8-4 Sunday afternoon at Kiwanis Field to advance to next weekend's CUFLA semi-finals in Oshawa.
Brock opened the scoring midway through the first quarter, as
Brandon Staal beat McMaster goaltender Max Yavitt. The Marauders answered with two straight goals from Kyle Lindsay and Justin Beatty to take a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
In the second quarter, the Badgers defense held McMaster scoreless and on offense got goals from
Mark Vradenburg,
Kyle Davis and Staal to lead 4-2 at the half.Â
In the third quarter, McMaster's Mitchell Iszkula would beat Brock starter
Ryan Jones to make it a one goal game, 4-3, with 15 minutes left in the quarter. Brock regained the two-goal lead in the final two minutes of the third, as Davis setup
Nick Rybka who drilled a shot past Yavitt, making it 5-3 after 60 minutes.
In the final quarter, Brock outscored the Marauders 3-1, with single markers from Davis, Rybka and
Travis Arch, on route to the west divisional playoff victory.
Arch finished the day with a goal and four assists to lead the Badgers offense. Davis had a four-point performance adding two goals and two helpers.
