
OSHAWA, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team lost for the third consecutive season in the CUFLA semi-finals falling to the defending national champion Guelph Gryphons by the score of 13-12 Saturday afternoon at Civic Fields in Oshawa.
The two teams were tied 3-3 after 20 minutes. In the second quarter, Guelph took a 5-4 lead, before the Badgers answered with four of the next five goals to take an 8-6 lead at the half. The Gryphons outscored Brock 3-1 in the third quarter tying the game 9-9 heading into the final 20 minutes.
In the fourth, Guelph took an 11-10 lead in the opening three minutes, but it was Brock answering with two of their own to go up 12-11 with 10:41 left in regulation. Guelph's Brett Ulbikas would be the hero, adding two goals just a minute apart in the final three minutes sending the Gryphons back to the CUFLA national championship final for the second consecutive season.
Leading the Badgers offense was
Kyle Davis (3G),
Travis Arch (2G, 1A) and
Brandon Staal (1G, 2A) who all recorded three points each. Rounding out the Brock scoring were
Mark Vradenburg (2G),
Gage Board (1G),
Mark Debrone (1G),
Cole Petrie (1G) and
Brandon Slade (1G).
Guelph was led by Curtis Knight who led all scorers with six points adding three goals and three assists. Mike Burke collected a game-high five goals, while Jordan Critch (1G, 2A), Ryan Serville (2G), and Brett Ulbikas (2G) rounded out the scoring.
