
WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock University women's soccer team (1-6 OUA) dropped a tough 3-2 decision to the No. 7 ranked Laurier Golden Hawks (6-1 OUA) on the road Wednesday afternoon.
The Badgers opened the scoring in the 10th minute as
Brooke Boekestyn added her second goal of the season, putting it past Laurier starter Maggie Carmichael. Boekestyn then added her second goal of the contest in the 43rd minute, to put Brock up 2-0 at the end of one half.
In the second half, the nationally ranked Golden Hawks added some extra pressure up front outshooting Brock 11-2.
Laurier cut the lead in half in the 46th minute, when Nicole Lyon found the back of the net on Brock starter
Jenna Vasiliaskas for her seventh goal of the season. In the 67th minute, Emily Brown tied the game 2-2, adding her OUA leading 15th goal of the campaign, including her ninth in the past three games. With five minutes left in regulation, Laurier's Maxine Murchie recorded her 10th goal of the year, which would prove to be the game-winner.
The Golden Hawks outshot Brock 23-8 (9-6 shots on goal). Vasiliaskas recorded six saves in the loss for the Badgers, while Laurier's Carmichael collected two saves for her sixth victory of the season.
The Badgers return to action this weekend as they host the Algoma Thunderbirds both Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 pm as part of the 2014 Brock Homecoming festivities.
