Brock men's lacrosse improves to 4-0 with victory over division rival Mustangs

1790ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team (4-0 CUFLA) continued their unbeaten streak saturday afternoon, at home, with a 14-6 victory over long-time rival Western Mustangs. Homecoming brought on a strong fan-base cheering Brock to their fourth consecutive victory of the 2014 season.

In the first quarter, Brock's offence came out strong scoring just two minutes into the frame. The teams would then trade goals, leaving the score tied at two moving into the second quarter. 

Nicholas Beaudoin's overwhelming success on the draws allowed the Badgers to control the ball for the majority of the half. As a result, Brock's offence would eventually take over; scoring three straight tally's, rendering the score 5-3 in favour of Brock at the end of the half.

Brock would explode for five straight goals to begin the third quarter; led by the outstanding offensive play of Brandon Slade, Mark Debrone, Kyle Davis, and Greg Davidson who combined for 11 of the Badgers 14 tallys. Brock would play sound defensively for the majority of the game. As a result, Western never found themselves leading the contest in the second half, only coming within five of the Badgers goal total. Ryan Jones had another strong performance in goal, helping the Badgers secure their fourth victory of the the season winning by the score of 14-6.

The Badgers attack was led by Slade (3G, 2A), who accumulated five points in the victory. Debrone (2G, 2A), Davis (3G), and Davidson (3G) also chipped in with multiple goals in the match. Rounding out the Badgers scoring were Travis Arch (1G, 3A), Gage Board (1G, 1A), John Fitzgerald (1G), and Mark Vradenburg (1A) all contributing with points and helping Brock remain undefeated.

Jones was able to stop 20 of a total 26 shots he faced, leading to his fourth victory of the season. Western Goaltender, Zachary Grace, turned aside 18 of 32 shots in the loss.

The Badgers return to action Sunday September 21st, as they welcome the Brock Alumni team as part of the 2014 Homecoming festivities.
