Brock men's rugby falls to Queen's 24-17 on homecoming

2253ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's rugby (2-2 OUA) team gave the two-time defending OUA Champion Queen's Gaels (3-0 OUA) all they could handle Saturday afternoon in front of a capacity crowd on homecoming weekend despite falling by the score of 24-17.

Queen's took an early 12-0 lead, before Brock added a try late in the first half to make it a one possession game, 12-5. The Gaels tough offense would put pressure on the Badgers just before the end of the half and added a try to regain the 12-point lead 17-5. In the second half, Queen's would record another try and convert, extending their lead to 24-5.

With the crowd on their side, the Badgers would battle back answering with two trys and a convert of their own, making it a six-point game 24-17. Brock would continue to pressure, but it was the Gaels coming away with their third victory of the season on the road.

Scoring trys for the Badgers were Ben Harmer, Spencer Labron and Jamie Corbett. Connor Fitzsimmons chipped in with a single convert.

For the Gaels, Kainoa Lloyd recorded two trys while Fraser Bruce and Brendan Sloan added singles. David Worsley converted on two of four convert attempts in the victory.

The Badgers next action is Saturday, September 27th at 1:00 pm when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks.
