
LONDON, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team (5-0 CUFLA) improved to 5-0 on the season as they swept the regular season series against divisional rival Western Mustangs, winning by the score of 12-9 Friday night at TD Waterhouse Stadium.
The Badgers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after one quarter and added five of the six goals in the second quarter, to take a commanding 8-1 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Brock would go up by as many as nine, leading 11-2 after 60 minutes. The host Mustangs battled back in the final frame, adding six straight goals to cut the lead to three, 11-8, with two minutes left in regulation. Brock midfielderÂ
Mark Vradenburg would break the scoreless fourth quarter, beating Western goaltender Michael Brown with 1:32 remaining to secure the road victory.
Brock had eight different goal scorers led by
Brandon Slade who recorded two goals and three assists for five points. Vradenburg contributed with two goals and one assist, while
Kyle Davis and
Travis Arch both chipped in with two goals each. Rounding out the Badgers scoring were
Gage Board (1G, 1A),
Mark Debrone 1G, 1A),
Greg Davidson (1G) and
Nick Rybka (1G).
Leading the Mustangs offense were Sam Neeb (2G, 1A), Jordi Jones-Smith (2G) and Kyle O'Donnell (1G, 1A).
In goal, Brock starter
Ryan Jones improved to 5-0 allowing seven goals on 19 shots for the victory. Western starter Zach Grace suffered the loss giving up 11 goals on 18 shots.
In five regular season games, the Badgers offense has registered 90 goals while allowing just 35.
