Brock men's lacrosse goes 1-1 at Baggataway Cup; falls in semi-finals

3044LENNOXVILLE, Que. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team (11-4 overall) had their season come to an end Saturday as they posted a 1-1 record at the 2015 CUFLA Baggataway Cup, falling in the semi-finals to the McGill Redmen by the score of 7-5.

The Badgers began the weekend with a 10-9 sudden death victory against the Trent Excalibur in the CUFLA quarter-finals.

On Friday night, the Badgers got off to a slow start trailing Trent 4-1 early in the second quarter. Brock answered back with three of the next four goals to cut the lead to one with 15:15 left in the third quarter. After the Badgers fourth goal, the power went out in all of Lennoxville postponing the remainder of the game to Saturday morning at 9am.

After regrouping, the Badgers came out and scored three straight goals to take a 7-5 leave with 7:41 remaining in the third quarter. Trent tied it up 7-7, scoring two before the end of the quarter.

In the 4th quarter, Brock would go up 8-7, after a bullet from Davis Neal (Orangeville, Ont.) with 10:17 remaining in regulation. With less than two minutes left, the Badgers Nick Karam (Whitby, Ont.) put the Badgers up by two, 9-7. In the final minute of regulation, Trent's All-Canadian Garrett Eddy added back-to-back goals sending it to overtime.

After two scoreless periods of overtime, Neal was the hero, after taking a pass from Brandon Slade (Orangeville, Ont.) and burying it past Trent goaltender Kyle Holton for the win.

Karam was the Badgers Player of the Game finishing with three goals and two asists. Connor Ham (Newmarket, Ont.) added two goals and one assist while Neal (2G), Nick Rybka (Bolton, Ont.) (1G, 1A), Parker Baile (Aurora, Ont.) (1G) and Kyle Moore (Linehouse, Ont.) (1G) rounded out the scoring.

Just seven hours later, the Badgers went up against the undefeated McGill Redmen in the CUFLA semi-finals.

Brock scored the first goal of the game, before McGill answered with five straight leading 5-1 at the half. The Redmen would score two of the next three to go up 7-2 with 13:37 remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Badgers would answer with three straight goals to cut the lead to two 7-5, but that was all the top defensive team in CUFLA would allow against, as Brock's season came to an end. The Badgers have not raised the Baggataway Cup since 2009.

Neal was named the Badgers Player of the Game after adding the hat trick. Slade (1G, 1A) and Rybka (1G) rounded out the offense.
