Ron Joyce Stadium Sunday afternoon. With both teams showing good pace to start the game, it was the Marauders that got on the scoreboard first when Amy Froome blocked a Brock clearing attempt and crossed to Alexandra Riganelli, who directed the ball past Brock keeper
Lauren MacCulloch in the 26th minute.
The Badgers came close to an equalizer before halftime when
Olivia Schramowsky broke in alone, but McMaster keeper Laura Blackburn came out and made a great save to maintain the clean sheet.
The second-half saw both teams suffering from the severe heat, but McMaster managed to carry most of the play and generated several scoring chances.
Blackburn was only tested once in the second half and played the angle well to deny Badger
Stephanie Sanders, who made a nice run down the right sideline.
Julia McKinley had another chance late as Brock made a push to tie, but her shot from distance sailed over the net.
Marauder Maila Carboni was a constant threat and had two glorious chances to add to the lead in the second half, but just could not find the net. In stoppage time, the Marauders just missed getting a second marker when Anne Yeboah got the ball in the box but ran out of space as MacCulloch closed quickly.
MacCulloch turned aside nine of the 10 shots she faced in the loss. Blackburn recorded four saves for the shutout victory.
