Brock women's soccer falls to McMaster 1-0

Box Score 4065ST. CATHARINES, ON - The Brock women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the McMaster Marauders Wednesday night at Alumni Field.

McMaster opened the scoring in the 37th minute as Jossie Faber buried a free kick from 18 yards out into the bottom right hand corner.

In the second half, both teams offense had a number of key scoring chances but it was Brock rookie goalkeeper Marilena Spagnolo (St. Catharines, ON) and McMaster's Deanna Persico standing tall coming up with some big saves.

Brock's best opportunity came in the 72nd minute when Brooke Boekestyn (Jordan Station, ON) beat the McMaster defender and drilled a shot that was stopped by the challenging Persico and got a rebound which went just wide.

In goal, Spagnolo registered 11 saves in the loss while Persico turned aside all 11 Brock shots she faced for the shutout victory.

The Badgers are on the road this Saturday against the Waterloo Warriors before returning for a four-game homestand, vs Windsor (Oct. 1 - 1pm), Western (Oct. 2 - 1pm), York (Oct. 6 - 1pm) and Guelph (Oct. 15 - 1pm).
