Women's soccer: Badgers season ends in Hamilton

The Brock women's soccer team fell out of the playoffs with a 2-0 loss to McMaster in Hamilton on Wednesday.

"The girls battled right to the final whistle but unfortunately, today was not our day. I am so proud of this group of girls," said head coach Kevin Trethowan. "Nobody has had an easy game against us this season. We picked up back-to-back wins against Waterloo and Laurier and took points off of Western, Guelph and Mac. We have a group of extremely hard working, dedicated and talented individuals."

Brock controlled the possession most of the first half, and the match remained scoreless heading into halftime.

"The girls moved the ball around really well," said Trethowan. "We just couldn't turn our possession into decent goal scoring opportunities."

After the break, the Badgers started well and the game was even up until Mac broke the deadlock in the 67th minute.

Brock struggled to clear the ball and the Mac striker knocked the ball home. With 15 minutes to go, the Badgers pushed numbers forward in search of an equalizer, but ultimately were caught by a very quick and decisive counter attack from Mac.

"Our pre-season goal was playoffs and we achieved that," said Trethowan. "The future is extremely bright for the women's soccer program at Brock University. This is only beginning."
