A trio of Brock Badgers earned OUA women's soccer all-star honours.
Goalkeeper Marilena Spagnolo, midfielder Brianne Desa and forward Samantha (Sam) Bayer were each named second team all stars.
"Last year we had one player chosen as an all-star, this year we have three players, including one rookie," said head coach Kevin Trethowan. "It's evidence that we are moving in the right direction as a team and a program."
Spagnolo, a third-year Kinesiology student from St. Catharines, was the sole Brock all-star last season. This year, she posted a 0.95 goals against average and finished third overall in save percentage (.877). Â
"I am delighted that she has been chosen again, thoroughly deserved," said Trethowan. "She is an extremely talented goalkeeper and a leader for us on and off the pitch."
Desa, aka Bucky, had an immediate impact for the Badgers with two goals against Laurier in her OUA debut.
"She went from strength to strength as the season progressed and ended up as our top goalscorer with five goals," added Trethowan.
Bayer, who was the Badgers' Rookie of the Year in 2017, carried last year's form into this season.
"She is a constant threat to opposing players and lethal in front of goal," said Trethowan. "Sam bagged four goals this season, including the game-winning goal that booked our spot in the playoffs. All three thoroughly deserve to be chosen this season and I am extremely happy for them. Congratulations ladies."
