Carter Bondy of St. Catharines scored a pair of tries and registered five converts as the Brock Badgers men's rugby team shutout the Toronto Varsity Blues 50-0 during their home opener at Alumni Field on Sunday.
"To start off with a shutout is a tremendous way to start the season," said head coach
Phil Sullivan. "We committed a lot to a certain way we wanted to execute on offence and defence. When we did our defence the way we wanted to then we got the ball back an awful lot."
Elijah Wright scored a pair of tries, while
Brendan Long,
Victory Eichie and
Zach Zorbas each filled out the scoresheet.
Sullivan added that youth is a strength for this year's Brock team. Seven players for Brock played their first OUA game on Sunday.
"Our talking points through training camp were to control what we can control and the way we want to play the game," said Sullivan. "We need to improve our execution and our pace. We'll emphasis communication in our next practice."
The Badgers (1-0) will visit the Waterloo Warriors (0-1) on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 2 p.m.
