Badgers fall to undefeated Gryphons

The Brock men's rugby team lost its first match of the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) season, by a score of 43-21 on the road to the Guelph Gryphons, on Saturday, Oct. 2.

Head coach Shawn Windsor said there are positive takeaways for the Badgers despite the loss, including some teachable moments for a subsequent training session.

"There were some positives for us to build off. We had some decisive moments of play that showed us we could play with them," Windsor said. "The effort and intensity were there for most of the game. However, we just made too many errors with our fundamentals. We got away with it last week against Western, but not this week."

Guelph stormed out to a 12-0 lead until Devon Ollson put Brock on the board in the 15th minute. Carter Bondy made a successful convert.

Before halftime, Steven Commerford punched in a try, and Bondy added two more with a kick.

The Gryphons led 24-14 at halftime.

At the start of the second half, Guelph quickly scored. Liam Boeyenga replied with a try for Brock, including another Bondy boot through the uprights.

Guelph pulled away to remain undefeated on the season.

Next, the Badgers (1-1) host the Waterloo Warriors (0-1) on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 4 p.m.
