Brock men's lacrosse team will play for Baggataway Cup

The Brock men's lacrosse team is heading to the Baggataway Cup championship game.

The Badgers defeated Bishop's University Gaiters in the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association (CUFLA) semifinal in North Bay on Saturday, Nov. 6.

It was Bishop's first loss of the season.

No. 3 Brock will face off against the No. 4 Guelph Gryphons in the Baggataway Cup final on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on Lax Sports Network.

Guelph knocked out Trent 13-10 earlier in the day.

Brock has defeated Guelph in two games earlier this season by scores of 10-8 and 18-6.

On Saturday, the Gaiter's entered the game as the higher seed, receiving a bye into the semifinals, while the Badgers outlasted the Queen's Gaels on Friday night.

"This match was a good game for both teams. In the first half, both teams felt each other out, and both played well," said Brock head coach Vince Longboat. "We went through the first half not knowing each other from the league other than video. However, we made some adjustments at the half."

Just five goals were scored in the opening 20 minutes, as Brock held a slight, one-goal lead on the Gaiters, up 3-2.

At halftime, it was all even, as the Gaiters managed two of the three goals in the second frame and evened things up after 40 minutes.

The score was all tied up, 4-4.

"We just told the team to keep pushing and play our game. Keep to the plan, and we will come out on top," Longboat said.

Brock scored six consecutive goals in the second half before Bishop's found the back of the net late in the fourth quarter.

Joshua Rex and Tyrus Rehanek each scored two goals to lead the Badgers attack.
