GUELPH - Challenging the Guelph Gryphons for the second week in a row, the Brock Badgers men's rugby team came up just one point short in a 34-33 quarter-final loss on Saturday afternoon in Guelph.
After finishing the regular season with a 3-3 record, Brock entered the OUA postseason as the No. 6 seed, matching up with Guelph as the No. 3 seed.
After falling behind 34-14 by the midway point of the second half, the Badgers went on a run that nearly resulted in knocking off the higher seed. Scoring 19 unanswered points, Brock battled until the very last whistle coming up just shy of advancing to an OUA semifinal. The loss marks the second consecutive season the Badgers fell to the Gryphons in a quarter-final showdown.
On the pitch, Brock tries were scored by
Evan Bryant-McKay,
Zach Zorbas,
Luke Bagshaw,
Josh Celebre, and
Brendan Seaver-Sutton. Bagshaw also added four successful converts to finish the day with 12 total points.
Having qualified for the OUA postseason in three straight seasons the Badgers will return next fall with even higher expectations as they continue to build towards becoming a provincial contender.
