Brock Badgers name Carli Tingstad to lead women’s soccer program

The Brock Badgers will have a new coach on the field when the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) soccer season kicks off this fall.

Brock Sports announced Carli Tingstad as its new head coach of the women's soccer program on Tuesday, April 5.

"We are so thrilled to welcome Carli Tingstad to Brock and the Badger family. Carli's coaching and U SPORTS leadership experience are all the right ingredients to lead our women's soccer program," said Melissa Krist, Director, Brock Sports. "Her proven track record of high-performance experience will continue to strive to develop our student-athletes to a pathway of athletic, academic, and personal growth success."

Tingstad arrives in St. Catharines after serving as an assistant coach for the past seven seasons with the University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) women's soccer team, which competes in the Canada West conference, under head coach Craig Smith.

A former centre-back, Tingstad brings a wealth of coaching certifications, most notably a Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) A License she completed with the Scottish Football Association.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to lead the women's soccer program at Brock University," Tingstad said. "There is enormous potential to grow a program that continues to develop players on the pitch, in the classroom and in the community. I am looking to build upon the 'family' culture that already exists within the program at Brock, and to create a long-standing and sustainable culture for growth, development, and success."

Tingstad was the head coach of the Thompson Okanagan Football Club from 2015-20, which competed in the BC Soccer Premier League, the highest calibre of youth club soccer in the province of BC and the staff coach with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC Okanagan Academy Centre from 2013-19.

Tingstad holds a Masters of High-Performance Sport Coaching from the University of Stirling in Scotland, a Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching from Douglas College and a Diploma of Human Kinetics from Okanagan College.

She's looking forward to working with student-athletes to equip them with the personal, technical, tactical, mental, and physical tools to be successful individuals and as a team.

"My vision for this program is to strive for academic success by growing the number of Academic All-Canadians, build a product on the field that has consistency and qualifies for OUA championships with the ultimate goal of reaching the national championship tournament," added Tingstad. "In addition to excellence in the classroom and on the field, we're going to connect Brock women's soccer with the community through outreach and volunteering initiatives."
