The Brock Badgers men's lacrosse team put up a valiant effort but were taken down by the visiting Western Mustangs 8-4 on Saturday (Oct. 14) night.
Western got on the board first, scoring at the 3:40 mark. The Badgers answered with a goal from senior Mitchell Zulian. First-year attack Avery Steinbach Parker gave Brock the lead with a goal before the first-quarter buzzer.
In the second quarter, Western put three goals on the board to take a 4-2 lead. Brock was unable to solve Western goaltender Michael Orlando in the second.
The third quarter saw Western score their fifth goal with 13:53 remaining. Brock answered with two straight as fifth-year offensive midfield Blair Pachereva scored his first of the game, while Steinbach Parker earned his second. The Mustangs added two more in the quarter and held a 7-4 lead after three.
The Badgers were unable to find another goal as Western went home with an 8-4 win.
Steinbach-Parker had a team-high two goals and two assists in the contest, while Pachereva, Jaden Patterson and Brodie Thoms all distributed one helper.
Up next, the Badgers (4-3) are looking to rebound as they travel to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks (4-3) on Sunday (Oct. 15). Game time is set for 3 p.m.
