The Brock Badgers earned their second-straight win as they defeated the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues 9-1 on Saturday (Oct. 21) night.
The first quarter saw both teams play strong defence, preventing goals early. Brock finally broke the deadlock with three minutes left in the first as first-year attack Avery Steinbach-Parker found the back of the net.
Fifth-year midfielder Blair Pachereva went through traffic to find his first of the game, extending the Badgers' lead to two just before the end of the first quarter.
Brock continued to apply pressure as Pachereva earned his second of the game. That was all the scoring that occurred in the second quarter as the Badgers went into halftime up 3-0.
The Varsity Blues fought back in the third, earning one two minutes in. First-year attacker Colton Armitage answered back for the Badgers mere minutes later. With about seven minutes remaining in the quarter, Steinbach-Parker found his second of the contest. Brodie Thoms scored with 1:15 left in the quarter to give the Badgers a 6-1 lead.
In the fourth, the Badgers kept the offence going as Aidan Buis got in on the action to make it 7-1. Armitage added his second of the night, and Noah Simonelli got on the scoreboard as well as the Badgers went home with a 9-1 win.
The defence was the key factor in the Badgers' win, preventing U of T from getting tons of major chances. When the Blues did get opportunities, goaltender Connor Scott was up to the task, giving up only one goal on the night.
The Badgers will play their final regular season home game tomorrow (Oct. 22) night against the McMaster Marauders. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
