Badgers head to Toronto for OUA championships

The Brock Badgers women's tennis team are looking forward to competing at the OUA championships this weekend (Oct. 5 – Oct. 7) at Mayfair Toronto East.

Six other teams (McMaster Marauders, Ottawa Gee-Gees, Toronto Varsity Blues, Waterloo Warriors, Western Mustangs and York Lions will be competing alongside the Brock Badgers for the right to be named women's tennis champions. The four-time defending champion Western Mustangs hold the No. 1 seed, while the host Varsity Blues come in at two seed.

The Badgers are seeded sixth and will take on the No. 3 McMaster Marauders at 10:30 a.m.

Aleks Paramentic has been the top singles and doubles player for the Badgers throughout the season. The White Oaks Tennis Club product has won her last two singles matches, which includes a straight sets win (6-4, 6-4) over McMaster's No. 1 player Eva Feddema. The sophomore nursing major is described by head coach Todd Green as a hard worker who brings a positive attitude and humility whenever she steps onto the court.

Paramentic will be paired with first-year Ariana Stepanovic as the No.1 doubles team. The two hold a win (8-3) over McMaster's No. 1 pairing and are hoping to repeat that success this weekend.

Senior Lauren Stevens brings leadership to the squad and will operate out of the No. 4 slot against McMaster. The Guelph native won her No. 1 doubles match with McMaster earlier in the season with Paramentic.

The women's team has suffered through a string of injuries and illnesses and is peaking at the right time. With teams having not seen their full lineup throughout the year, the Badgers women are hoping to catch some teams off guard this weekend.

"I'm proud of how hard our team has been willing to work this season. I'm really excited for the reset for OUA's with a healthy women's team," said Green.

The quarter-final matches take place on Friday (Oct. 6), with the semi-final matches occurring the day after (Saturday, Oct. 6). The championships conclude with the gold medal and bronze medal matches on Sunday (Oct. 7).
