The Brock women's team were bested by both the Waterloo Warriors and McMaster Marauders to start the year.
On Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Youngs Sportsplex, the Badgers fell 5-2 to the Warriors. They then traveled to Hamilton to face the McMaster Marauders on Sunday, Sept. 15 where they dropped a 6-1 decision.
Brock 2 - Waterloo 5
In their matchup with the Warriors, the Badgers claimed an early lead with Aleks Paramentic and Cynthia Szebeni as well as Anika Radulescu and Lauren Stevens winning their doubles matches 8-3 and 8-7, respectively.
Fiona Barkovic won the Badgers' only singles match in straight sets by scores of 7-5 and 6-4.
Emma Shea battled to a third set after a dominating 6-0 victory before ultimately being bested in the deciding set 10-5.
Waterloo overcame Brock in the other five contests in straight sets.
Brock 1 - McMaster 6
The Badgers won two matches in their matchup against the Marauders.
Gabby Cayen and Anika Radulescu won their doubles contest 8-3, but the Badgers fell short in the other two doubles matches, giving up the first team point.
The Badgers saw their lone victory come from Fiona Barkovic who defeated Isabel Heyland in a singles match by set scores of 6-2 and 6-0.
Cayen won the first set of her singles match against Hannah Malus by a score of 6-4 before falling in the next two sets including a 10-4 third-set tiebreaker loss.
McMaster claimed victory in the other four singles matches in straight sets.
Up next, the Badgers will face the York Lions in Toronto on Saturday, Sept. 21.
