The Brock women's tennis team dropped matches to the Toronto Varsity Blues and York Lions over the weekend. 

On Saturday, Sept. 21, the Badgers fell 4-3 in a narrow battle to the Lions at the Mayfair Club.  

Brock then travelled to Scarborough Campus on Sunday, Sept. 22 where they were defeated by a score of 6-1 by the defending OUA champion Varsity Blues. 

Brock 3 - York 4 

The Badgers' matchup against the Lions was tense as Fiona Barkovic, Aleks Paramentic and Emma Shea won three straight matches to kick off singles competition.  

Paramentic started the Badgers off strong and won her matchup 6-2 and 6-3 while Shea won her first match 7-5 and was outstanding in the tiebreaker, winning 10-7. 

Holding her opponent to four points total, Barkovic was dominant, triumphing 6-1 and 6-3 over Nemdini Ratnayake Mudiyanselage. 

Brock was bested in all their doubles matchups with Paramentic and Cynthia Szebeni showing great fight and narrowly losing their game 8-7. 

The unbelievable effort shown throughout singles matches brought the Badgers within one on the scoresheet where they ultimately came up short. 

Brock 1 - Toronto 6 

Brock was victorious in one matchup against the defending champions.  

Szebeni was resilient and earned the Badgers a point with her 6-1 victory against Kiana Aboosaidi. 

Toronto swept the doubles category and went on to win three straight singles matchups. 

This run was disrupted by Szebeni who earned a 6-1 defeat, giving the Badgers their lone point on Sunday.  

The Varsity Blues then went on to win the next two singles matches.

Up next, the Badgers will face the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday, Sept. 28 at the Youngs Sportsplex in Welland.
