The Brock Badgers women's curling team finished 2-2 at the Brock Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 20 and Sunday, Jan. 21.
At the St. Catharines Golf & Country Club, 11 other teams competed along with the Badgers in the final bonspiel before the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Women's Championship.
Brock got their weekend started with a convincing 7-2 win over the TMU Bold. After going down 1-0, it was all Badgers from there. The hosts punctuated the match with a three-point eighth end.
The next match saw them fall to the McMaster Marauders 4-3. The Marauders came out to an early 3-0 lead after four ends of play before the Badgers got their footing. Brock went on a 3-1 run, including a late point in the eighth end, but it was not enough.
To start Saturday, the Badgers suffered a tough 10-1 decision to the Guelph Gryphons. The contest was conceded after two ends of play.
Demonstrating resilience, the Badgers battled in their final contest. Brock started strong with a three-point first end, but the lead was erased as Toronto tied things up at 4-4 after five ends of play. Two strong ends in the seventh and eighth resulted in one point each, allowing Brock to take the close 6-4 win.
Up next, Brock looks to best their quarter-final finish from a year ago as they head to Guelph for the OUA Women's Curling Championship from Friday, Feb. 2 to Sunday, Feb 4. The bonspiel will take place at the Guelph Curling Club.
