Badgers earn third-place finish at Guelph Invitational

Brock had a strong start to the season.

The Brock Badgers women's curling team placed third at the Guelph Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 10 in Guelph.

In their first match on Saturday morning, the Badgers led 1-0 early against the McMaster Marauders but ultimately fell 8-4 in seven ends.

Brock competed closer in its second contest of the day; this time against the Laurier Golden Hawks. Two points in the sixth end from the Golden Hawks was enough to see them win 6-4 over the Badgers.

Looking to turn things around, Brock earned a commanding 9-3 win over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, including putting up four points in the fifth end to widen the gap over their opponents.

The Badgers' first match on Sunday helped them earn a spot in the Varsity B Final, as they defeated the Varsity Blues by a score of 9-2 after taking the lead early and not looking back.

In the Varsity B Final on Sunday afternoon, five points in the top of the third end against Mohawk College sealed a 9-0 victory in four ends as Brock took home the third-place spot at the invitational.

Next, the Brock Badgers women's curling team will head to Peterborough to compete in the Trent Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 23.
