Women’s curling splits series at Brock Invitational

Brock found two wins on the weekend.  

The Brock Badgers women's curling team defeated the York Lions and Brock junior varsity team while falling to the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Western Mustangs.  

Representing Brock were Sophia Barbosa, Rhiannon Beckstead, Lena Haase and Ryenne O'Keefe

Kicking off Saturday, the Badgers forced the Lions into conceding early, putting up nine points by the fifth end to conclude the match with a 9-2 victory.  

In their second contest of the day, Brock went down 3-0 early to Western but came extremely close to completing the comeback after making it 3-2 after two ends, ultimately losing 5-4 in seven ends.

On Sunday, the Badgers began the day taking on the Brock junior varsity women's team. The Badgers scored five in the first end, which was enough to see the hosts win 7-3.  

Rounding out the invitational, Brock lost in seven ends to Ottawa after the Gee-Gees scored four in the third end, ultimately winning 7-4.  

Brock concluded the weekend with a +7 score differential and a third-place finish in their pool. 

Next, the Brock Badgers women's curling team will head to the Galt Country Club in Guelph, where they will take part in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championship from Friday, Feb. 7 to Sunday, Feb. 9.
