The Badgers men's cross country team competed in Callander, ON.
Brock placed ninth in the eight-kilometre race for the 2024 Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships that took place at the Offsprey Links Golf Course on Saturday, Oct. 26.
"The men's team rose to the occasion after dealing with many challenges on the season including a broken metatarsal and an early-season fall," said Head Coach Kevin Moore. "Evan and Brendan surged past 14 athletes in the final two kilometres to lock in ninth place while Riley delivered his best performance of the season, pushing through lingering aches."
Leading the way for the Badgers was Isaac Iannarelli who finished the race in 26 minutes, 19 seconds and two milliseconds, placing 40th.
Just over 11 seconds later, his teammate, Christian Ligtenberg, crossed the finish line (26:30.4).
In his first OUA championship with the Badgers, Frederik Rivard placed 55th as he finished in a time of 27:03.6
"Isaac and Chris led from the front, delivering their strongest performances when it counted most, while Frederik anchored the team with consistency throughout the season," Moore added.
Within 23 seconds of each other, Riley Coles (27:27.0), Brenden Damiano (27:45.2) and Evan Ryall (27:49.8) all made their way to the finish.
Rounding out the Brock performances for the provincial championship was Garrett Wager (31:08.1).
"We're incredibly grateful to our assistant coaches Erin Laughlin, Andrew Nebel and Grant Wignall," Moore said. "Their energy, guidance, and support made a lasting impact on our athletes throughout the season."
Moore is excited for the runners to continue to build on the cross country season as they pivot to the track and field team.
"As we transition into the indoor track season where these athletes will compete over 1000m, 1500m or 3000m. We're excited to build on this momentum and continue developing our skills for what lies ahead."
